Free day-care for Waldhaus children (age 3 to 12) in the expert and loving care of Anita Bryner and Selina Fravi: seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 12 and 2 to 6 p.m.; free for resident guests. If desired, Anita and her helpers will also have lunch with the children.

Make your own pizza! Most Thursdays, right in the big Waldhaus kitchen. ‘For children only’ (Waldhaus guests, 4 years old and up). Advance reservation advisable.

Children’s table, on Mondays, as a rule: let’s cook and eat together! With Elisabeth Wallnöfer, Waldhaus guests 4 years old and up. Reservation advisable.

Weekly children’s parties. Usually 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, with Anita and the Waldhaus Trio.

www.skischule-corvatsch.ch. The local snow sports school with all its activities – downhill and cross-country skiing and snowboarding, of course, but also activities such as snow-shoeing, sledding parties, childcare facilities for the very young, a kindergarten-in-the-snow and movies for kids.

Regional ski passes: reductions of 66% for children through 12, 33% for teens from 13 to 17 years of age. Further discounts apply to 5- and 6-day-passes (and passes for 10 to 14 days) for families with two or more children below 18 (ask for “Familienkarte”). www.bergbahnenengadin.ch

Snow-how. A local ski instructor (www.skischule-corvatsch.ch) is at your disposal from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. at our reception desk for all questions regarding skiing and snowboarding, every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can also order lift tickets there.

Equipment: Need to rent or buy equipment? During the season, the two sports stores in Sils are open seven days a week (generally through 6:30 p.m. weekdays, 5:30 p.m. on Sundays).

Corvatsch Snow Night. Every Friday, night skiing on Corvatsch from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on a brightly lit 3-mile run. “Night bus” between Sils and Silvaplana/ St. Moritz

Tennis on our indoor court. CHF 36.- per hour between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.; CHF 46.- between 3 and 11 p.m. Reservations at the concierge’s. Tennis pro Franz Maschler, available Mon to Fri after 6 p.m.; CHF 85.- including court fee.

Ice skating. Free public rink in the village, December to mid-March. (After that, ‘kunsteisbahn’ ice rink in St. Moritz). Skating lessons: Liliane de Becker, phone 079 684 3742.

Swimming pool. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. if you’re a resident guest (free of charge), from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for visitors from outside (CHF 14/ children 8).

Waldhaus Memory. Remember “Concentration”, the memory game? There is a charming Waldhaus version.

Park Center of the Swiss National Park in Zernez, 30 miles from here: wonderful interactive exhibits in English, French, Italian and German for all ages, on plant and animal life, ecology, geology, culture and history. Illustrated children’s book: “Gian and Gianna”. 6 years old and up. A story set in Sils when the Waldhaus was young, told both from a boy’s and a girl’s perspective.
