“Happy New Year!”. Before 152 AD, the Roman year began on March 1. In our valley, it remains an important holiday, Chalandamarz. The school children go from door to door as a group, singing old songs and carrying cowbells to “ring in” the spring. They also collect money for the annual school trip. The Waldhaus traditionally invites all the children of Sils, their teachers, the school board and the local ministers to lunch on this day.
