You are here
The house in the woods (which is what Waldhaus means in German) has lots of space and many spaces – to sit back and relax, to vacation, to read and play and dance and talk and think.
The Great lounge
Where would you like to sit? Right in the middle, or in a quiet corner? All by yourself, or in the best of company? In the background, our resident trio will be playing classical salon music or dance music in the bar.
the Bar
Uniting the present and the past: what is true for the entire hotel is particularly true for this room. The masterful craftsmanship of a hundred years ago, complemented just as masterfully by the contemporary architects, Miller & Maranta. A 1904-vintage Steinway grand, the dance tunes of our trio, plus everything you expect from a bar – from beer on tap to rare spirits and single malt whiskies.
For non-non-smokers the bar continues to be the place for lighting up a cigar, a pipe or a cigarette. (Our other rooms are smoke-free). An elegant and comfortable Smoker’s Lounge is in the works, ready to take its place in the summer of 2012.
THE FOYER IN THE ROCKS
The reading room... readers welcome!
Wasted space? A room just for reading. And writing. And nothing else.
Empire-Salon
Elegant, authentic and restrained: that's how it looked in 1908, and that's how it looks today. Including a sophisticated “Welte-Mignon” player piano with original piano rolls from famous pianists of a century ago. Throughout the summer and fall, you can hear it every three or four weeks in a little concert and presentation; in winter, unfortunately, the overly dry mountain air prevents it from working correctly.
